For a special occasion, such as a wedding, Christmas party, New Year’s party, or even a fun night out on the town, it’s fashionable to match the tone of your party face to the outfit. For example, an outfit of jeans and a T-shirt often looks awkward with a face completely made up with lots of foundation, mascara and bright red lipstick. However, a sparkly formal dress will look great with this makeup combination.

Preparing the skin for make-up is essential. You need to really cleanse tone and moisturise first. For me, it’s all about the basics – if your foundation is flawless the rest of the make-up will look far more professional. Avoid applying too much product; this can result in an uneven finish, which looks and feels heavy.

Of all of the holiday party planning you could ever do, the 4th of July allows you to be the most casual with your preparations. Your 4th of July party will generally be outside, with your guests dressed in shorts and a t-shirt (you’re lucky if you can get the men at your party to wear even that much). You only cook one or two things, as opposed to the 5 course meal you’d prepare for a dinner party. People drink out of cans, as opposed to fancy wine glasses. But just because your 4th of July party is casual, it doesn’t mean you should prepare any less for it.

Location is key for your 4th of July party, with outside being the venue of choice. It’s nice to be able to enjoy the company of friends and family out in the sun.

The weather, however, doesn’t always have your plans in mind. Even if rain isn’t in the forecast, you should still make sure you have a contingency plan for your outdoor celebration. When figuring where everyone was going to sit for your outdoor party, it was easy because you have that nice big picnic table and the lawn chairs. What about indoors? Can everyone fit inside your house? Do you have enough seats?

If the answer is “no”, one alternative to consider is holding your party in the garage. Probably not as much fun as being outside, but if you move the cars out (and anything dangerous the kids could get into) and move the picnic table and lawn chairs in, you have a nice covered party space. How comfortable this is will depend on the number of people you have coming over.

You can do many of the things you would normally do outside. You can still grill the food. Just make sure the grill is out of the garage enough so the smoke doesn’t bother everyone, but close enough so you don’t have to trudge outside in the rain to prepare the food. If lighting off fireworks was part of the plan, you can still do it.

Even if your 4th of July holiday party planning goes awry with an unforeseen change in weather, you can still make the most of the situation by either doing a partial outside party in the garage, or you can move the party inside entirely. Whichever way you decide to go (in or out), don’t let a little rain spoil your day. Have fun with your friends and family, because that’s what the 4th of July is all about.
