I am planning a hip hop party for February of ‘09 and I am still coming up with ideas and themes for the party. I want to make a list of things that will help me stay on task and a list of things that I should be considering for the party. I will except any and all ideas. Thank You–in advance–for any suggestions!

I know there is a market for this, but I am not sure how to make money doing the job. Things I have to keep in mind are – budget for items needed for party, possible gas mileage if it is outside of a certain range…etc. Does anyone already have a business in this field or any ideas of how to charge for the party, but still receive a portion of the profits? I welcome the ideas, I’ve wanted to do this for a while and now I have the time to pursue it.

I have become the person responsible for planning all of the birthdays at work. I enjoy doing things for birthday’s, but I always seem to be the only one who remembers, so I end up doing all the work and buying cake, etc. I started out planning something for a few people I was close to, and I would send out an e-mail letting the other people on my team know who had a birthday coming up and tell them they could sign a card at my desk and if they wanted to contribute anything for cake, they could, but didn’t have to. After doing this for a few people, one person complained that she didn’t like being asked for money (even though she is usually the first person in line for cake), so I stopped asking for money. However, I still feel like people expect me to do something for birthdays on my whole team. I didn’t do something once and the person complained to me that everyone else had gotten cake, etc. I would like to keep doing something, but can’t afford to buy for everyone w/o help.

The success of any hens night is largely influenced by the sorts of hens party games that are playedover the party.  So many times you hear of hens complaining about how lame the activities were, or worse still, how boring.

The main answer to averting this response and making a real high is to begin by matching the hens party games with the designated theme. By doing this you’ll make certain that the activities make sense, that they run well with the other elements of the event and the guests will understand what they can expect.  For instance, a partners quiz game will simply not fit in a packed bar as the other women will not be able to hear what’s taking place and will be quite likely to be distracted by the  dancing.

The next thing to consider is at what point you will want to play the games?  Will they be played at the beginning of the event and act as an introduction for the girls, or will the games be played after some drinks when inhibitions may have fallen away a tad more.  If you opt  a well thought out time for the correct activity even the most inane of games will turn into everyone’s best choice quite rapidly.  This is especially true of drinking games as they have been known cause the night to end quite early if a few of the party goers get over excited too quickly.

The next aspect to decide is the venue.  If you are planning your party in someone’s home then you have quite a large scope to engage in increasingly personal and wild games as the other hens will be more comfortable in revealing secrets.  Your home can also be conducive to activities that take set up and props.  Looking at the other side, a bar or nightclub will require you to focus more on games that necessitate little advance planning and can be engaged in without the benefit of even tables and chairs.  The bar will also provide a greater atmosphere and allow you to to get more people involved in the fun.  So be careful to you select games to match the venue.  Please be reminded, Pin the macho on the man could be an excellent game for the house but not exactly appropriate for an upper class venue.  You might think that seems silly, but believe me it does happen!

The penultimate point is to go for games that match your guests, you may find that one set of guests will love to play games entailing whipped cream and a half naked stripper, while others will find this totally out of their comfort zone. So make sure you know know early on who’s coming and you can set the mood to match.

That leaves us with one last job – finding the final hens party games to play!  There are an abundance of books out there offering games that you can play, some proven and some quite frankly terrible.  But the good thing about listening the rules above is that even a pretty awful game will succeed when used at the correct moment, situation and location.  This is is owing to what your guests are expecting.  If you prepare a ritzy event and you attempt a whacky party game then it is rather likely that the attendees will be put off balance and deem it as a mite too much and find it embarrassing, and the same is true in the reverse situation.  But have a Mad Hatters Tea Party and play some insane out of control game and the guests will love it!  Random but true.

I havecompiled a few of my recommended hens party games

The Fiances Game
