Are you thinking about hosting a holiday party this year? Congratulations! Holiday party planning can be exciting, however with so during the holidays; it can be a bit tricky, also. The simplest method to reduce party planning stress is to assemble party planning hints to get the creative juices flowing and begin getting ready for the party as soon as possible.
As key as it is to begin the holiday party planning a head of time, some things, such as sweeping your home, can not be done weeks in advance The question is which responsibilities can be completed in advance to help avoid that last minute rush to get things ready for the party? Below are a few suggestions on what you can undertake during those weeks before your holiday bash.
1. Time to get the holiday decorations from the attic. Check their condition and replace as necessary.
2. Create a party planning checklist to track dates and deadlines. Also, prepare a master shopping list. Are there any party favors you can order on-line and have them shipped to you? Shopping online saves time, gasoline and stress.
3. Prepare and freeze appetizers in advance. Don’t forget to remove it from the freezer a day before the event so the food can thaw.
4. Look around the entry to your home. Is it welcoming? Make sure there is enough light for your guests can see where they are going, especially if you house has stairs. Put in storage any unused gardening tools, toys, etc. to give your home an unclutteredand welcoming exterior.
5. One of the simplest ways to reduce stress is to hire someone to do a chore you really don’t want to do. For example, if you don’t have time to shop, hire a personal shopper.
So now you have five new ideas for holiday party planning success. Remember, even though the holidays can be a hectic time of year, everyone enjoys spending time with family and friends. Traditions, including holiday parties, make memories which last a lifetime. When you hear the doorbell and your first guest arrives, take a deep breath and relax, because it’s going to be a great bash. Now go enjoy the festivities!

I am the MOH and have been asked to put together a joint bachelor/ette party here in Sacramento, CA. As you know, Sac doesn’t have the night life like places like Las Vegas and we need to have it here in town. I have been racking my brain what kind of activities I can plan to have the off the hook Joint Bachelor/ette Party ever. The party consists of only 5-7 people total – so whatever I come up with needs to be fun and fit for a small group of people. I can only come up with ideas like… bowling, wine-tasting, golf, and stuff like that, but these aren’t the greatest of items. I wish Sac had a Dave & Busters – I heard this is a fun place to hold a joint party. Does anyone know either from personal experience or word of mouth any ideas on what I can do to plan this event? I seriously need some help!!! Mucho Gracious!

If you’ve never planned a large party, especially one for 50 guests, then you’re probably a little anxious about all the preparations. It’s often hard to know where to start and how much you’ll need for a successful night. There are of course no hard and fast rules, but I’ve compiled a list of helpful tips that are sure to make the weeks leading up to your party a little less tense and a little more organized.
1. The first thing you must do is choose a date. If you’re inviting around 50 people, it’s more than likely that not everyone will take you up on your invitation. So make sure that it’s a date that is convenient for the guests you really wish to come. Send out the invitations at least a few weeks in advance. This will give you more prep time and a better idea of your guest list.
2. You also need to choose a good place for the party to occur. Make sure the area is large enough to accommodate all of your guests comfortably. There should be enough chairs, bar stools and table space for everyone. If you’re home isn’t large enough, consider reserving space elsewhere.
3. Once you’ve decided on a space, think of a theme or color scheme that you can work into the place settings and table centerpieces. Have fun with the design and you’re guests are sure to appreciate it.
4. Now you’ll need to plan out the menu. If you decide to have the party catered, then most of the work will be done for you. Just make sure that you have entree options that will work for any special dietary restrictions. As far as appetizers are concerned, a good rule of thumb is 5 to 6 hors d’oeuvres per person. Make sure your guests have plenty to munch on. Assorted cheese, fruit and vegetable trays are an easy choice.
5. If you plan to serve alcohol, try to offer a wide selection. Everything from domestic and imported beers to wine will compliment most meals. In general, expect that your guests will consume about one drink per hour. So if your party is set to last three hours, then you should be able to easily supply three drinks per guest. It’s always better to have too much than too little.
6. In addition to alcoholic beverages, make sure to have a large stock of soft drinks, juices and water for those who choose not to drink alcohol.
7. Finally, be sure to make a time table of all other tasks so that you’ll have everything ready before the actual day of the party. There’s nothing worse then running around a few hours before guests arrive.
This list is meant to provide you with the bare basics. You should be considering all of these tips far in advance. Remember, you deserve and should be able to enjoy your party just as much as all of the attendees. Take a deep breath and spend a good amount of time planning and preparing so that you won’t be too anxious on the big day.

Not only will you suffer a big headache, you can even get a heart attack caused by a party planning checklist. That is, if it is not well prepared. If you havenât got a good one for a very near upcoming party, which you being a host to it is just unavoidable, anxiety alone can bring many unnecessary dangers to yourself.
So, how can we get a good and well prepared party planning checklist? The best answer to it is two words…early preparations. Only by planning early, you will have the chance to plan everything properly and make changes where ever needed.
About 2 to 4 weeks ahead of the party, you should begin to;
- Create a Budget. This is really important. You have to get a realistic idea of how much that you are going to spend. It wonât be good if suddenly you realize that you must have something really important only to find out that you have spent your entire budget for the week.
- Make a guest list. Since budget is in order, you party planning checklist should now include a list of people to invite. This will also involve buying and writing invitations.
When youâre creating the guest list for either a cocktail party or a buffet, you can be a bit more daring in your choices. In these situations, donât be afraid to mix it up a bit. Try not to invite only your long time trusted friends, but include the one that you would like to know better.
Since no one is âtrappedâ sitting at a table next to the same people all evening long, like at a sit-down meal, people can mingle with more freedom to seek out those they find interesting.
-Choose a location. If you have the budget and plan to hire outside venders, you should do a little bit of research to find venders and get their price quotes. Having the guest list previously can really help this process a lot, since you can select a more suitable venue accordingly. You might want to consider a bigger place if you plan for some kind of activities for the guests.
-Create a menu. The next thing to add in your party planning checklist is to determine the foods that you are going to serve. If you are planning on making them yourself, you need to include finding out supplies and cost involved into your checklist. In the other hand, if you decide to hire a catering service, make sure you include getting price quotes from them. You also might want to set a booking date in your checklist together with a reminder to confirm with the caterer closer to the party date.
-Send out invitations. The best time to send invitations is at least 3 weeks before the party date. This will give enough time for the guest invited to RSVP. It also provides you with a good time frame should you need to do any necessary changes to your planning based on your guest invitation replies. Since normally guest will RSVP promptly, you will be able to fine tune your preparation much better to suit the amount of guest that are coming.
-Start cooking ahead of time. If you have decided to make all the meal yourself, create a realistic timeline for the cooking. Can you make something ahead of time and freeze it without sacrificing quality? If you can then, by all means go ahead and do it. Not only does this minimize your stress, it frees up valuable time youâll need for other tasks as party day gets closer.
-Assign dishes for potluck. If the event is to be potluck and youâre not creating the entire meal, itâs not too early to assign what guests are bringing which dishes. The advantage of doing so is you will know what to expect and there will be no duplication in dishes. And it will give the guest enough time to make preparation on their own.
-Reserve rental items. Now will be a good time to add this step into your party planning checklist, especially if your party will take place during a major holiday. If you wait too long you may just find that the items you had planned on arenât available on that date. Then youâre in real trouble. You donât want to be out of stuff like plates, cups, coffee urns, chairs . . . need I go on?
-Hire any help for kitchen, serving or attending the bar. Confirming extra helpful hand earlier would be another good thing to do at this stage, since you will have enough time to make changes should any of the helping crew suddenly have something urgent to attend or maybe unexpectedly change his mind. Depending on how big your party will be, you will need some help even in the early stage of preparations.

There are so many different types of theme parties to choose from, it may become overwhelming if you don’t know what you would like to do. Fortunately for most people, when the urge for a theme party presents itself the decision has already been made for you. Theme party planning is a lesson in patience. The more you have the better prepared you will become time for the actual party.
The number one time of year to have a theme party that includes dressing up is Halloween. Halloween in itself is not an actual theme party, because the guests will arrive in many different types of costumes. For it to be an actual theme it must be based on a specific idea or subject matter. For instance, pool parties are considered theme parties because everyone invited usually comes prepared to go swimming. Therefore by bringing bathing suits with the idea of entering the pool acts as a theme. If this year you would like to make your Halloween party a theme party have everyone invited stick to a particular form of dress based on your favorite monster movie or perhaps a cartoon. With only these two ideas the possibilities are endless. Think about it.
Theme party planning can be a challenge compared to many other types of party preparations. If your theme is not attractive to people on your guest list they may decide not to come. So when sending out your invitations, it is always a good idea to ask for confirmation a few weeks in advance. Some people may change their minds at the last minute and decide to make the trip, so by using a good party planners technique you should have enough food and beverages to cover the unexpected guests by adding 15% to the number you expect. The difficulties in planning also can be found in decorating and in the menu.
When coming up with a menu for your theme, try and have it relate to the actual layout. What I mean is if you are planning a star trek theme you may want to create recipes based on Klingon food. This could include gladst ousus bal or broiled karada legs. Hmm, sounds delicious doesn’t it? You could easily find the actual recipes by surfing online or maybe you’re from Klingon and it’s an old family recipe. The point I’m making here is the food should play a role. To create a great theme party you must take your planning a step further than you normally would and have the patience to see it through.
Decorations can be purchased just about anywhere and require the same attention to detail. Deciding on a particular color for your theme works well, unless it’s a masquerade party your planning, requiring flamboyant costumes and bright colors.
To know what is the right choice of theme party for you, requires dipping into your imagination and pulling out what you know and love. If you have children and want the party to include more than just the adults pick one of their favorite cartoons for your theme. The children would have a blast and the pictures would be forever precious. But if the party is strictly adults, plan on something that perks your imagination. It makes it much easier to create something that you love than not. Plan your theme with the patience of an artist who makes the painting come alive and do the same, creating a vision from out of this world.

Girls Scouts collecting b-day supplies
If a family is in tough enough straits this year to need free food from the Burlington-Hampshire Food Pantry, they may not have enough money to put on a birthday party for their child. To remedy that, the Girl Scouts from Hampshire and Pingree Grove will go door to door the week of March 7-13, collecting materials for “birthday boxes.”

Scheming and dreaming will get you nowhere quick unless you actually have an idea as to what type of party you plan on having. The holidays are around the corner and Halloween may still only be weeks away. Regardless of the date on the calendar, theme party planning can be especially difficult, especially if the theme you selected is not going to work. There are many different types of theme parties, ranging from; a casino theme, a masquerade party, pool, Hollywood, Arabian nights theme party, BBQ, and a plethora of Halloween sets. The main reason for theme party planning failure is a lack of devotion by the host and the unwillingness of the guests to participate.
Within this article are ways you can employ the willingness of your invites. It starts by creating a theme that would draw popular approval. Find out what your friends and family would enjoy. By getting their opinion beforehand you will have a good idea as to whether or not your party will work. This is a reasonable approach if you plan on having an off the wall theme. You don’t want to send out a few dozen invites and find out the hard way that none of your guests are interested in dressing up in flamboyant costumes for your masquerade party. This type of theme party desperately needs cooperating guests, so ask beforehand before creating such an elaborate affair. There are many other themes that require dressing up in certain ways, so by delivering the proper approach to your theme party planning you can actually predict the number of accepted invites by the responses of those you asked.
Once you have chosen the theme, begin your planning like you would for any other party. The best way to do this is by creating a checklist. Keep track of everything you need, purchased and have on hand for the party. By having a detailed list the chances of you forgetting something important and having to run out on the day of the party greatly diminish.
With the checklist ready to go, start putting together your list of invites. If you’ve decided on an elaborate scheme, try to get other people involved in the planning. This draws more interest. The more people you get involved the better chance of success. You will have extra help with the food and the decorations, plus you will save time and money.
Of course you should already have the venue picked out amongst other things, but they are common issues when addressing the planning of any party. Do your due diligence before setting up a rare theme for your party and everything should work out well. Theme parties can be a great time if you have the cooperation and the willingness to see it through.
The biggest mistake people make is they allow themselves to be sucked into an impossible dream for their theme. If you do you can expect to have to work longer and harder, spend more money, and have fewer guests arrive at your doorstep the night of the party. Don’t allow this to happen to you, ask beforehand and see your party explode with laughter and good times.
